Here’s a scary thought: Imagine for one second that the current Writer’s Guild of America Strike goes on as long as the last one. That’s 22 weeks. What would happen? I mean, 22 weeks is like, 5.5 months. That makes the future rather grim. We’re looking at what could be lots and lots of reruns.

The thing with reruns, though, is there’s no excitement: we already know what’s going to happen. If you know what happens in an episode, you could switch to another channel, and shows lose viewers, maybe permanently. No producer wants that. So there’s only one other option: more Reality TV shows. While some things, like 5 days of American Idol, wouldn’t necessarily bother me (and there is talk of it), it’s still a scary thought. Do you really want to watch another TV show featuring a selfish family or a catty group of teens doing stupid things? I don’t. Unfortunately, unless something or someone gives, that’s probably what we’re looking at.
