On the Today show, Meredith Vieira said that Whoopi Goldberg called to clarify her comment on The View where she said what Roman Polanski did was not “rape-rape” – a comment that Whoopi has been taking heat for ever since the words fell out of her mouth.

On The View, Whoopi Goldberg seemed to come to Roman Polanski’s defense, saying, “I know it wasn’t rape-rape. I think it was something else, but I don’t believe it was rape-rape.”

Whoopi Goldberg clarifies her comments, saying that when she said that she was only referring to the legal charge against Polanski at the time. She said she is not a supporter of Roman Polanski.

Goldberg was invited to appear on the Today show but declined.

The Today show also aired this piece about the debate over Polanski – over 130 celebrities have signed a petition for Polanski’s release.

In 1977, Polanski drugged a 13-year-old girl and had sex with her… he plead guilty to the charges and fled the country to avoid a prison sentence – how is it that celebrities can rally around him?

I used to tune into The View periodically, just to see what was going on. No more. I’m not the least bit courious. Whoopie was only commenting on the legal charges against Polanski? What does that mean? What in the world is legal about having sex with a 13 year old???
I was thinking I might like an iTouch for Christmas until I saw Whoopie in an iTouch commercial. Not anymore. The iTouch simply has no interest for me anymore.

I have watched the video on Jezebel.com and here is what Whoopi said. She stated “it was not RAPE because she was aware and the mother was aware”. WHOOPI GOLDBERG STATED IT WAS NOT RAPE. Those were her words as though it were a fact. She yelled at Joy and Sherri about calling sex with a minor “RAPE” which it is. She then stated that 13 and 14 year olds are thought of differently in other parts of the world. She said “she wanted to state what he was charged with” he was charged with RAPE Whoopi. So why did she yell at Sherri and Joy for speaking the truth. She never really apologized for what she stated about it not being RAPE. He pleaded guilty to having with sex wit a minor then she states again not RAPE. Whoopi Goldberg he pleaded guilty to RAPE RAPE RAPE.
