Whatever Happened to Saturday Morning Cartoons?
I remember when I was really young, getting up early on Saturday mornings just to spend my time from 7ish until 12ish watch all the wonderful cartoons: Sonic the Hedgehog, Rainbow Brite, Ghost Busters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc. As I got older, the quality of these television shows grew steadily worse, whether or not I realized it. Cartoons were blamed for the rise in immorality and violence.
Now, though, TV shows need to have some “educational value.” But who wants that? It’s easy to find cartoons that don’t have any educational value at all – and they are stupid.
Maybe the only reason I think that Saturday morning cartoons used to be good is that’s how I want to remember them. What do you think?
