The premiere episode of Private Practice season 3 begins 20 minutes after May’s shocking cliffhanger that left Amy Brenneman’s character Violet a bloody victim – after a mentally ill patient kidnapped and drugged her, then stole the baby from her womb.

Amy Brenneman said the finale “jarred people so much because it just tonally went for it. It just went dark.”

Brenneman commented, “I’ve been recognized for things, but this was literally people coming up to me at Logan airport and going, ‘How are you?’ I’m like, ‘I’m good. I’m an actress. This didn’t happen to me.’ ”

Amy Brenneman comments on her character in Private Practice season 3 episode 1, saying, “Violet gets hurt big-time. She is saved. She survives, but she gets hurt. The first episode has a beautiful series of flashbacks, mostly with me and Pete about the beginning of him at the practice.”
