PHILLIPS: “She wasn’t happy. She loved being with us. We loved having her with us. She took it… professionally. She was greatly disappointed. She’s a professional. She works in television. She knew that this was a possibility.”

Awesome!!! While I’m sad at Rita’s death, and find the Batista/La Guerta plot quite implausible, series 4 was great! John Lithgow is a genius as usual.
I disagree with some reviewers about taking exception to Dexter’s supposed idiocy in the episode, making so-called mistake after mistake. It is meant to show the effect the value he places on his family is having on his decisions.
The “hello, Dexter Morgan” moment was one of the best TV moments ever.
With Deb’s realisation of Dexter’s real family background, it brings great relationship possibilities between them that could have a bearing on Dexter possibly being accused of Rita’s death, especially if they make the connection that Dex couldn’t have made it to Arthur Mitchell’s garage so fast. They might think Dex was Trinity’s partner.
Who know’s? I know that I can’t wait for season 5, nine months?!! Aaarrgghh!

Perhaps the death scene was just a dream sequence. In season 5 Dexter will walk into the bathroom, greeted by smiling Rita in the bathtub, inviting him to join her.

I was so shocked. I loved the character of Rita. I didn’t see that coming. I am really sad about her character being killed off. Julie Benz didn’t actually leave the show, she was signed on for several seasons but the producers told her that she was going to be killed off. I really was hoping that this was not going to happen. She may come back as a cameo/flashback. She will definitely be a presence next season, but I doubt we will see her again. RIP Rita.
