Valerie Bertinelli, best known for her 1975-84 sitcom One Day at a Time, is the new face of Jenny Craig.

The 5’2” Bertinelli, who turns 47 this month, vows to lose 30 lbs. by September (from a size 14 to a size Cool. Going public with her goal “is the motivation I need,” Bertinelli says. “I need to do this in front of millions of people so I can’t mess up.”

And, she adds: “It is freeing because I can say it first: I know what you’re thinking – I’m fat.”

Bertinelli says that Alley, who has maintained her 75-lb. downsizing, also offered some advice: “She said, ‘Even if Wolfie [the 16-year-old son of Bertinelli and her ex, Hall of Fame rocker Eddie Van Halen] wants to go to In-N-Out Burger, don’t do it, because paparazzi will photograph you!’ “

The Craig campaign, for which Bertinelli will shoot a new ad every month as she shrinks, represents a major step back into the public eye for the until-now stay-at-home mom whose last big TV role was on Touched by an Angel in 2003.

“Wolf is my priority,” she says of her son. “I was a Hollywood hermit.” Also, she admits, “I didn’t like going up for interviews because I didn’t want to hear how fat I am.”

Although Bertinelli remains guarded about her current weight – “Tom [Vitale, her boyfriend of nearly three years] doesn’t even know, and he’s not going to until I get down” – she is blunt about her goals.

“I don’t know how my size, 14, has become obese while size 0 is normal,” she says. “It’s insane. I’m not even going for a size 6. I’ll be happy with a size 8.”

Here we go again…another celebrity fatty and a weight losing company pays them to lose weight! She is a size 14 — do people realize that more average every day working people are a size 14 and over! Why not show those people a group of themselves turning it around with their weight.

I agree with her in the article about size 0 being the norm – remember folks bones sticky out and looking like a small boy is norm then real curves on a woman – go figure!

Getting to a size 14 is more realistic than getting to a size 8! I truly love the ads where the woman says: “I was a size 10 and now I am a 4! What a joke – in the real world there are tons (pardon the pun) of women whose each thigh is a size 10!

Yes, being a good healthy weight is a wonderful thing for so many, many reasons – health to is the number one reason but let’s face it we really know the real number one – to look good (that’s our society)!

It would be great (now I know I am dreaming or thinking unrealistic) if these companies would run a promotion featuring everyday people (you know the ones who help make their company a success by buying their food and products!)

    Well, just my thoughts…..

Someone must tell these stars that size 14 is NOT fat – it’s normal! I would give my right arm to be size 14 again. Size 14 is perfect. Stay that way, Val, you’re darling.

What no one tells you is that the company gives them their food for free, for being their “model”. I would love to be an 8 again too, but I can’t afford the time, money, or the personal trainer that they all have. Who is kidding who? The personal trainer is the “key”.

What do you think?
