Two Charged in “Top Chef” Attack

Nassau County police arrested two women who allegedly attacked and yelled anti-gay slurs at “Top Chef” contestant Josie Smith-Malave. The incident occurred over Labor Day weekend.
Smith-Malave, an openly gay woman, appeared on the second season of “Top Chef.” She said that she and three other women were assaulted on September 1st by a dozen people.
One woman was charged with misdemeanor assault, while the other was charged with aggravated harassment. A homeless man who was accused of stealing one of the victim’s video cameras during the attack was arrested in September.
