I WANT to like it, since I really enjoying period dramas, but it just is not compelling. I believe the problem is with the writing or with the post-production editing. There are so many half-told subplots (e.g. Henry's sister, Margaret - what are we really supposed to know about he?; the court musician - everything he does seems to be a non-sequiter in the story; Wollsey - why exactly does everyone hate him? a little more background would be nice; I mean, why do other court schemers think he is worse than they are - there must be a reason). The costumes and sets are fantastic. Most of the actors are quite good. Unfortunately, I find Jonathan Rhys-Meyers to have a rather narrow range of acting ability and the Anne Boleyn actor is simply annoying. I can't image getting through Season 2 if she's in every episode (I'm watching Season 1 right now). Honestly, I think this show is quite mediocre.
