While the details of The Office spin-off are pretty hush-hush, there’s been plenty of rumors about who will star — and the first casting news announced today.

First, we know that the producers of The Office spin-off have cast Aziz Ansari of MTV’s Human Giant. According to executive producer Greg Daniels, “We met him pretty early on and thought he was very funny. [W]e have a good character for him.”

Now for the rumors. The Office spin-off’s premise has yet to be decided although producers have several ideas. Who from the current cast of The Office will be involved in the spin-off?

E! Online reports buzz that Rashida Jones, who plays Karen Filippelli in the Utica, NY office may star in the spin-off, but it’s all rumors at this point.

Another theory is that none of the current cast of The Office will appear on the spin-off – instead, we could see new characters introduced on The Office in the fall… and they will star on the spin-off.

According to executive producer Michael Schur, “We’re trying to come up with the best concept and hire the funniest writers. In the next couple of weeks, we’ll be making the final move to one specific idea.”

The Office spin-off is expected to air mid-season.
