This texting while driving video may be a graphic representation of what can happen – but the PSA’s visual may just hit home with teens and other drivers who think there’s no risk of texing while driving.

The texting while driving PSA video was produced by a Gwent, Wales police department, but the graphic message applies in the states too. The Today show further analyzes the impact of the hard hitting commercial in this video clip.

Recent studies show texting while driving is the cause of up to a quarter of the estimated U.S. 40,000 vehicle fatalities each year.

It remains to be seen if the texting while driving PSA video will be shown in the U.S., but people are checking it out on YouTube and other websites.

Everyone who TXT while driving should see this video, not just teens. Yes it is graphic, but people need to see this. Maybe people will think before TXTing.

MediaCurves.com just conducted a study with 300 viewers of a Public Service Announcement (PSA) from the U.K. illustrating the dangers of texting and driving. Results showed that majority of viewers (80%) reported that they are less likely to text while driving after watching the PSA. The study also found that 85% of American viewers reported that the PSA should be aired in the U.S. The majority of viewers (87%) believe that the PSA is appropriate in nature, and 86% also indicated that the PSA was extremely effective. I’m completely on board with the use of graphic PSA ads to drive home a point. There’s no question that they work. But eventually, even in our desensitized world, we’re going to run into the question of when of, when do graphic ads become too graphic?

The issue will boil down to the preventive scare tactis merits of an ad as opposed to the adverse effects the ad might have (particularly on minors).

I for one, am going to make sure my whole family sees this. It’s hard to see but it’s something that can really happen in an instant. I will NEVER text while I’m driving!
