Cheri Oteri played, among other characters, the peppy co-cheerleader alongside Will Ferrell on Saturday Night Live. Today comes tragic news that Cheri Oteri’s father was murdered — stabbed to death over the weekend in Nashville, Tennessee.

Country songwriter Richard Fagan, 61, has been arrested and charged with criminal homicide in the death of Gaetano Thomas Oteri, 69, according to the Associated Press.

Fagan and Cheri Oteri’s father, known as “Tom,” were roommates — the stabbing incident took place at Fagan’s home on Saturday night.

After Fagan was arrested Saturday night for a DUI, he told police he had stabbed Oteri with a pocket knife after a fight and fled the scene.
