Simon Cowell Leaving American Idol After This Season
The rumors have been confirmed – Simon Cowell is leaving American Idol to launch his American version of X Factor.
Simon Cowell will stick around for this season of American Idol, but after that he jumps ship and plans to have X Factor on U.S. TVs in fall 2011.
Cowell created the UK version of X Factor in 2004 and will serve as executive producer and judge on the American version.
Cowell tells reporters, “The X Factor will launch in 2011. Because of that, this will be my last season on American Idol.”
American Idol kicks off with season 9 on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
