Could Selena Gomez, star of Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place,” be the next Miley Cyrus? Time will tell – and soon. Selena Gomez stars as Alex Russo on “Wizards of Waverly Place,” which debuted in November 2007, a sweet comedy about the trials of a family of – you guessed it, wizards.

Selena Gomez is also reportedly being courted by Miley Cyrus’ music label, Hollywood Records, to sign a record deal.

Selena Gomez is no acting or singing rookie either – she got her start alongside that big purple dinosaur, Barney, and has recorded songs for Walt Disney records, including “Cruella De Vil” for 101 Dalmations and the theme song for “Wizards of Waverly Place” (Everything is Not What it Seems).

Selena Gomez’s introduction to Disney was in 2006 on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, playing Gwen in one episode, and in 2007, she starred opposite Miley Cyrus on “Hannah Montana,” playing pop star rival Mikayla.

With Miley Cyrus’ Vanity Fair photo scandal, Hannah Montana ratings saw a dip – could Selena Gomez be Disney’s next rising star?

Selena Gomez can be heard on the big screen in “Horton Hears a Who,” voicing the Mayor’s 90 daughters and seen in the upcoming “Another Cinderella Story” and “Princess Protection Program.”
