Scott Baio, Renee Sloan and baby girl Bailey DeLuca are a happy little family - but shortly after their baby’s birth, Bailey was diagnosed with a potentially fatal metabolic disorder called GA-1 that caused quite a scare.

Scott Baio and Renee Sloan told Celebrity Baby Blog that Bailey tested positive for GA-1 after coming home from the hospital. GA-1 is a disorder that can cause seizures and lead to a coma or death. In the end, the result was false, but Scott Baio and his wife are now telling their story.

According to Scott Baio, “It was the worst time in my life. Every breath that you take, every thought that you have, every moment that you’re conscious, it’s all you’re thinking about. The disease is a constant in your brain. It never leaves you.”

Renee Sloan told of Scott’s heartbreak: “Every time [Scott] would see a child, see a baby, he would just break down. It was so tough to go through the holidays, our wedding … all the while knowing, our kid may die.”

After 10 weeks of testing, doctors found Bailey to be healthy — the initial test was a false positive.
