Robert Schimmel Dead at Age 60; Comedian Schimmel Dies Following Car Accident (Video)
Sadly, comedian Robert Schimmel is dead following a car accident on Thursday. Robert Schimmel, who was best known for his appearances on “The Howard Stern Show,” was left in “very serious” condition after his 19-year-old daughter who was driving swerved to avoid a car accident and the vehicle rolled over. Schimmel died on Friday, September 3.
Robert Schimmel’s daughter was hospitalized also and is in stable condition.
I’m including one of Robert Schimmel’s standup videos; he released many comedy albums, wrote for “In Living Color,” and wrote the book “$5 a Day (chemo not included): How Humor Got Me Through The Toughest Journey of My Life.” Schimmel is a cancer survivor – he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2000 and underwent chemotherapy treatment.
Schimmel’s 11-year-old son was also in the vehicle, but did not suffer any injuries.
Rober’s brother, Jeff Schimmel, confirmed the news on Facebook, writing: “ROBERT SCHIMMEL. Son, Brother, Father, Grandfather, Comedian, Generous Man. I have always loved you, admired you, and was proud to be your biggest fan. I will never forget a single moment. R.I.P.”
Schimmel’s sister, artist Sandhi Schimmel Gold, posted a Twitpic toast of Robert on Friday night, and fans of Schimmel’s passed along their feelings about Schimmel’s death:
“Robert Schimmel was one the first people in comedy to call when my folks were fighting cancer. No ego no bs no small talk just inspiration.” — @danecook
“Robert Schimmel was one of the funniest and nicest guys in comedy.” — @jimmykimmel
