Red Hot Chili Peppers Sue Over “Californication”

It was only a matter of time before this was going to become an issue. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are suing Showtime Networks for using “Californication” as a name for one of the network’s television series (starring David Duchovny). Californication is the name of the Chili Peppers’ 1999 album and single.
Anthony Kiedis, lead singer for the Chili Peppers, said in a statement, “Californication is the signature CD, video and song of the band’s career, and for some TV show to come along and steal our identity is not right.”
The band is seeking a permanent injunction that would keep Showtime and the other defendants from using Californication for the show’s name.
