MythBusters Oops: Experiment Sends Cannonball Through House, Minivan (Video)
A “MythBusters” experiment involving a cannonball went terribly wrong, as it missed its target, flying through a minivan and into a house.
Luckily no one was injured.
The MythBusters stunt involving the cannonball was supposed to stay contained at the Alameda County Sheriff’s Department bomb range.
The experiment was supposed to involve the cannonball traveling through several barrels of water and a cinder block wall – instead, the cannonball shot over a hill and into a residential neighborhood.
The cannonball traveled at a speed of 1,000 feet per second, and went 700 yards into a home, bounced over a road, onto a roof and through the window of a minivan.
In a statement issued by Discovery and Beyond Productions, they explain, “During the testing, a cannonball took an unforeseen bounce from a safety berm. Sgt. JD Nelson, public information officer and bomb technician for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, who is a regular safety explosives expert for ‘MythBusters,’ was on site and all proper safety protocol was observed. Beyond Productions is currently assessing the situation and working with those whose property was affected.”
Mythbusters host Adam Savage said, “This is the worst we can imagine happening. I have kids of my own, I have a house of my own; I can’t imagine how angry I would be to find this happening to it.”
