MTV Brings “American Mall” Musical to TV

Watch out “High School Musical,” “The American Mall” may be the next big teen musical to hit the TV. At least MTV hopes so, when “The American Mall” hits the tube in 2008.
“The American Mall” isn’t too far from the “High School Musical” formula – after all, “Mall” comes from “HSM” producers Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush.
Nina Dobrev and Rob Mayes lead the cast of the romantic dramedy musical set – you guessed it – in a mall. Dobrev plays Ally, a singer/songwriter who is trying to save her mom’s music store; Mayes is the gifted janitor who has his own garage band. Ah, young love.
Autumn Reeser (“The O.C.”) plays Sharpay Madison, a rich girl who is also a mall heiress. Natch, she figures in to the plot to shut down the music store and tries to steal the lead character’s boyfriend.
“The American Mall” begins shooting in January in Provo, Utah.
