Sadly, Maura Tierney is leaving the NBC series “Parenthood” while she continues to undergo breast cancer treatment. NBC will be recasting the role.

Maura Tierney broke the news over the summer that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer after the network said it planned to delay the series due to Tierney’s health.

Doctors are optimistic about Maura Tierney’s treatment, with her spokeswoman releasing this statement: “Ms. Tierney and her doctors remain confident that the outcome of her treatments will be positive. She is deeply disappointed that she will not be able to rejoin such a highly respected, talented, fun and funny group of actors and wishes to thank (exec producer) Jason Katims and NBC for their patience and support.”

Parenthood will premiere on NBC midseason.
