Well, the Mackenzie Phillips interview with Oprah promised a shocking family secret – and it truly is. Mackenzie Phillips’ new book details her past drug addiction and the relationship with her father, John Phillips, including how he initially raped her and they continued to have consensual sex thereafter.

Mackenzie Phillips says, “I had sex with my own father.” When she confronted him, she told John Phillips, “We have to talk about how you raped me.” He responded, “You mean when we made love?”

Mackenzie Phillips’ interview with Oprah airs today, Wednesday September 23. Her book, “High on Arrival,” is in stores today.

In her memoir, Mackenzie Phillips writes: “On the eve of my wedding, my father showed up, determined to stop it.” She was 19 at the time, by the way. “I had tons of pills, and Dad had tons of everything too. Eventually I passed out on Dad’s bed.”

“My father was not a man with boundaries. He was full of love, and he was sick with drugs. I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father.”

“Had this happened before? I didn’t know. All I can say is it was the first time I was aware of it.”

John Phillips died in 2001.
