According to the New York Daily News, Lorne Michaels is “in the early stage of talking” with a Las Vegas casino to do a Saturday Night Live show. Say what?!
Isn’t product extension the kiss of death for successful TV shows? What’s Lorne Michaels thinking? And will a Saturday Night Live Las Vegas revue even work?
Which Saturday Night Live characters will be involved is up in the air, though names like Martin Short, Jon Lovitz and Julia Sweeney have all been tossed around. And what material will they perform? A mix of known SNL sketches as well as new stuff, I guess.
Lorne Michaels hopes to rope in some big SNL alum appearances too, like Chris Rock, Adam Sandler and Steve Martin.
Do you think this Las Vegas deal will ever see the light of day? I’m not so sure.
