Even though Dexter’s Rita died at the hands of the Trinity Killer last season, actress Julie Benze will be returning to Dexter next season.

Julie Benz will be appearing on Dexter’s season 5 premiere in the fall, reprising her role as Dexter’s (Michael C. Hall) wife, Rita Bennett.

Showtime issued a statement about Julie Benz’s return, saying, “As Dexter grapples with the reality of the death of his wife and the realization that he is now a single father, the presence of Rita Bennett will help him deal with his newfound feelings of loss and grief — emotions that Dexter Morgan has never really felt before.”

The show’s executive producers are saying that she’s not rising from the dead, and she’s only set to star in one episode… sounds like we could be seeing either flashbacks or a dream sequence.

In other Dexter news, EW.com reports that Julia Stiles is currently in talks to join the cast in a “major, top secret role in the show’s upcoming fifth season.”
