Yep, “Jon & Kate File for Divorce” is the big reality news headline of the day, and while the breakdown of the Gosselins marriage that was recapped in last night’s episode is a sad story, the statement Kate Gosselin issued has folks wondering what’s up with Jon.

News that Jon and Kate filed for divorce broke yesterday afternoon, well before the special announcement episode was to air on TLC. Kate Gosselin later issued this statement:

“Over the course of this weekend, Jon’s activities have left me no choice but to file legal procedures in order to protect myself and our children. While there are reasons why it was appropriate and necessary for me to initiate this proceeding, I do not wish to discuss those reasons at this time, in the hope that all issues will be resolved amicably between Jon and myself. As always, my first priority remains our children.”

The separation news was not a big surprise, but Kate’s cryptic statement really makes you wonder what did Jon Gosselin do specifically that left Kate no choice?

Jon issued his own statement that said: “In terms of my marriage, it’s no secret that the past six months or so have been very difficult for Kate and me. We are no different than other couples and parents who are facing a crossroads in their marriage. I am of course deeply saddened that we are divorcing.”

One final note, Kate Gosselin said during last night’s episode that this divorce/separation would have likely happened whether the world was watching or not.
