Jimmy Kimmel’s announcement to return in January comes on the heels of his late-night counterparts Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien announcing the return of their shows.
Despite the writers’ strike, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” is planning its return on January 2 – without their staff writers.
Jimmy Kimmel said in a statement:
“Though it makes me sick to do so without my writers, there are more than a hundred people whose financial well-being depends on our show.
I support my colleagues and friends in the WGA completely, and hope this ends both fairly and soon.”
The Writers Guild is supportive of Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien, David Letterman and Jay Leno, as they all held out for quite some time in support of the strike.
David Letterman is in the process of negotiating an “interim agreement” with the WGA – Letterman’s WorldWide Pants production company owns the show so he can negotiate with writers.
