Jay Leno has issued a statement for the joke he made when Ryan Phillippe stopped by last week — check out the video clip, where he asks Ryan Phillippe to give his “gayest look.”

Jay Leno apologized for making jokes about Ryan Phillippe’s first role as a gay character on “One Life to Live,” saying “In talking about Ryan’s first role, I realize that what I said came out wrong. I certainly didn’t mean any malice. I agree it was a dumb thing to say and I apologize.”

Needless to say, Jay Leno got a lot of flack for his comments from the gay community, with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation saying Jay employed “a misguided use of adolescent humor.”

Gotta love Ryan Phillippe’s reaction in the video clip, where he refuses to play along with Jay Leno’s request to give his “gayest look.” Phillippe says, “Wow. That is so something I don’t want to do. Are you just going to embarrass me tonight?”
