This “Katherine Heigl leaving Grey’s Anatomy” rumor has been floating around for awhile, but now we’re hearing a little more buzz, courtesy of EW’s Michael Ausiello.

Sources tell Ausiello that Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes will release Katherine Heigl from her contract. ABC studios and Heigl’s reps will have to come to a final exit agreement.

Apparently, Katherine Heigl was supposed to return to the Grey’s Anatomy set on March 1, following her leave to spend time with her adopted daughter. She never showed.

An insider says that it’s “complicated,” and that ABC and Heigl have been in discussion for months before mutually deciding that having Izzie leave Grey’s Anatomy is the best course of action.
