Informercial King Billy Mays Found Dead; Pitchman Billy Mays Dies at Age 50
Informercial king and TV pitchman Billy Mays was found dead this morning in his Tampa, Florida home. News that Billy Mays died has many wondering why his life was cut too short – Mays was just 50 years old.
Billy Mays is well-known for his informercials and pitchman role in commercials for a variety of products, including OxiClean and Kaboom.
The Tampa Police Department is investigating the death of Billy Mays – his wife found Mays unresponsive at 7:45 a.m. on Sunday; police say there was no sign of forced entry and don’t suspect foul play.
An autopsy will be conducted Monday afternoon.
Billy Mays’ wife made a brief statement: “Although Billy lived a public life, we don’t anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days. Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times.”
The Discovery Channel issued this statement: “It is with incredible sadness that we have to report that Billy Mays died in his sleep last night. Everyone that knows him was aware of his larger-than-life personality, generosity and warmth. Billy was a pioneer in his field and helped many people fulfill their dreams. He will be greatly missed as a loyal and compassionate friend. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family at this time of incredible loss.”
