“Golden Girl” star Estelle Getty died today at the age of 84 – Estelle Getty, who suffered from advanced dementia passed away at 5:30 a.m. at her Hollywood Boulevard home.

Her son commented, “She was loved throughout the world in six continents, and if they loved sitcoms in Antarctica she would have been loved on seven continents. She was one of the most talented comedic actresses who ever lived.”

Estelle Getty played the sarcastic Sophia on “The Golden Girls.” Estelle Getty’s Sophia Petrillo was in her 80s, but the actress was only in her early 60s at the time.

Estelle Getty also appeared in “Mask,” “Stop or My Mom Will Shoot,” “Mannequin” and “Stuart Little.”
