Ellen DeGeneres Quits American Idol; Ellen Leaving Idol Judge Gig

News that Ellen DeGeneres quit American Idol is spreading like wildfire tonight. Ellen DeGeneres issued a statement that she’s leaving the American Idol judges’ panel, leaving another free seat at the table.
Ellen DeGeneres made the announcement in a statement:
“A couple months ago, I let FOX and the American Idol producers know that this didn’t feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn’t leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for.
I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on Idol and I am very grateful for the year I had, I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.”
Executive producer Simon Fuller also made a statement about Ellen leaving Idol: “I loved Ellen’s passion for the artists and her nurturing skills. She brought honesty and optimism to our judging panel and I will miss her greatly.”
Looks like rumors that Jessica Simpson may be an American Idol judge aren’t that far fetched, hmm?

I am so sorry to see that Ellen is leaving. For one, she is compassionate and fair! In my opinion, (and many, many others), the real winner did NOT win. I am seeing the same things happening on, “So You Think You can Dance” and I have chosen not to watch these programs any longer. I’m sure Ellen struggled with some of these issues as well. Ellen, thank you for your beautiful heart and your honesty! Great Job!

I am sorry to see Ellen leave as well. But given the comments Nigel Lithgoe has made about his unhappiness with the current judging panel, I think Ellen was wise to leave early.
As for me, I am finished with American Idol. With Lithgoe’s return, I am sure the judging will become as predictable on the one show as it is on the other.
