‘Eli Stone’ Debuts Tonight; Academy of Pediatrics Unhappy with Autism Story

The new legal drama, “Eli Stone” will air tonight on ABC at 10 PM, following the season 4 premiere of “Lost” (lucky timeslot).
Jonny Lee Miller plays lawyer Eli Stone, a prophet whose visions are accompanied by George Michael songs — or is all that George Michael jazz just because of a brain aneurysm?
So, why is the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) all hot and bothered?
Well, the premiere episode of “Eli Stone” involves a plotline that links a vaccination (actually, a mercury-based preservative in the immunization) with a child’s autism. AAP is crying foul and attempted to get ABC to pull the episode.
The president of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Renee R. Jenkins, told the New York Times that the AAP is concerned the episode’s assertion “could lead to a tragic decline in immunization rates.”
ABC decided to air the episode, but will include a disclaimer that says: “The following story is fictional and does not portray any actual persons, companies, products, or events.” The network will also provide the Center for Disease Control’s autism website.
