Dolly Parton turned down an invitation to appear as an ‘American Idol’ guest judge, because she thinks she would be too nice to the contestants. Dolly has agreed to film an episode where the competitors will perform songs as a tribute to her music, but she will only help the contestants backstage.
“I won’t be a judge. I couldn’t do that. I can’t tell people they aren’t doing a good job even if they ask me,” says the ‘I Will Always Love You’ country queen.
“To tell someone if they’re good or bad, or if they suck isn’t me.”

I’m from Dolly’s hometown, Sevierville, TN, and we’re so excited that American Idol is doing a tribute to Dolly’s songwriting. We’ve done the same thing for four years now with the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition and encourage our competitors to sing one of the 3,000+ songs she’s written in their own style (rock, rap, blues, etc). It’s been pretty successful and we get contestants from all over the US (of course the prizes are good too - 1st place gets $500, a guitar autographed by Dolly and a recording session in Nashville). The finals this year are May 17 and we’re accepting applications through April 11. For more information go to www.BloominBBQ.com
