Did Nicollette Sheridan Leave Desperate Housewives for Good?

Did you catch Desperate Housewives last night – do you think Nicollette Sheridan is leaving the show for good?
Nicollette Sheridan’s Edie Brit was heard talking on the phone with her son, telling him she’s going to spend a lot of time with him now, packing her car and taking one final look at Wisteria Lane. But let’s back up — what led Edie to throw in the towel, pack up and leave, and is she gone for good?
Looks like Edie finally and completely ruined her friendship with the Desperate Housewives women. After kissing Bree’s husband, Orson, and discovering Bree’s baby secret (Bree sent her daughter away while she was pregnant, pretended to be pregnant herself and is raising Danielle’s baby), then taking the news that she knows to Bree, the ladies banded together to collectively tell Edie that they were done with her.
But, back to the question at hand: does this departure mean that Nicollette Sheridan has left Desperate Housewives for good?
You’ve no doubt heard the rumors that Nicollette Sheridan was being written out of the show, and creator and executive producer Marc Cherry confirms that “Yes, Edie’s gone.” Then again, it sounds like she’ll be back, with Cherry’s comment, “She won’t be back for a few years.”
Sounds like we won’t see Edie Brit for awhile, right? Well…
There’s that other little rumor that Desperate Housewives is expected to fast forward a few years to more quickly develop the characters – so we could be seeing Nicollette Sheridan sooner than you think.
Desperate Housewives is expected to end its run at the end of the 2010-11 season.
