Days of Our Lives Fires Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn (Marlena and John)
This news is sure to hit Days of Our Lives fans hard: Soap Opera Digest is reporting that Days’ stars Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans) and Drake Hogestyn (John Black) have been fired due to budget cuts.
Days of Our Lives Executive Producer Ken Corday tells Soap Opera Digest, “The couple will be happily reunited after a long period of angst and separation and will be off-screen after January for an unknown period of time. It was a very tough decision to make.”

I have watched DOOL since I was tiny. My mom has watched it all these years & so have I. Marlena and John are the backbone of the show just like Tom & Alice Horton used to be. I agree with a previous reader…get rid of some of the younger and newer actors/actresses who have STUPID storylines (Nick—ugh!!). I still like the Sammy/EJ/Nicole and, of course, Bo/Hope. I love that some of the cast from Passions are joining the show, but with Marlena and John gone, I can’t say at this point if I will watch it after the first of the year. Sorry NBC but Mr. Corday should not look a gift horse in the mouth-these two have carried the show all these years. Bad mistake Days!!

Very poor decision to let two of the stars go that have carried the storyline for many years. I watch it to relax after work and I like the history of the actors. I agree the Chelesa/Nick/Melanie/Stephanie/Max story lines are not fun or interesting. If NBC wants to kill off the show, they have just done it. Corday is really biting himself in the butt if he finishes this deal!
