Dancing with the Stars: Derek Hough’s Neck Injury

Derek Hough injured his neck during a Tuesday rehearsal and now the Dancing with the Stars pro is in a neck brace. How will this impact the competition?
First, how did it happen? Derek Hough was rehearsing a dance for Kylie Minogue’s performance “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” which required him to snap his head back. According to Derek Hough, “There’s this move where I whack my head back, and I just felt it go ‘pop.’ … It was “snap, crackle, pop”, like a box of cereal.”
Derek Hough was rushed to the hospital before the Dancing with the Star’s taping.
Doctors found “no skeletal damage, and it was more all muscle spasm,” and have advised Derek Hough to take it easy – no small task when you’re on Dancing with the Stars!
How will Derek Hough and Shannon Elizabeth practice for their Dancing with the Stars performance? According to Derek Hough, they’ll try and work around his neck injury (which requires him to wear a neck brace):
“It’s going to be an interesting week, we don’t know what’s going to happen. It may be a Dancing with the Stars first, Shannon may have to dance with somebody else next week. I might have somebody else come in for practice, and I might just have to direct it.”
