Have you seen the Chris Farley ad yet for DirecTV? It features Chris Farley in a scene from Tommy Boy, playing out the “Fat Guy in a Little Coat” bit while David Spade comments on DirecTV as his Richard character from the movie.

Not unexpectedly, David Spade is taking a lot of heat for the Chris Farley ad, which makes it seem that Spade trades off good taste for a paycheck.

Do you think the Chris Farley ad is in bad taste?

Here’s what David Spade’s publicist had to say about it:

“When DIRECT TV came to me and the Farley family with this idea about ‘Tommy Boy,’ we talked and thought it would be a cool way to remind people just how funny Chris was. It is a clever homage to my friend and a movie that we loved doing.”

Additionally, a DirecTV spokesperson commented: “We should look to Chris’ family and friends for the ultimate opinion on this subject. They were involved from the beginning of this project and felt that the spot was a great to tribute to Chris.”

Chris is smiling over the whole thing. He didn’t want to die so young. If this new video wakes someone up and makes them smile……..good job Chris.

When I first saw the ad I was a little taken back and somewhat confused because I knew Chris had died. It kind of freaked me out, but then I started laughing remembering how funny he was. I feel the ad is definitely appropriate in bringing to mind the horrible effects of drugs. His life cut short was a terrible waste; and for what? Those people who are “offended” need to look at the larger picture. Maybe it will do some good. He was a public figure..I don’t think he would have minded.

funny how people are reacting and claiming it is too soon to the actors death Micheal Jackson died four months ago and that is all we see in ads for Halloween.

What do you think?
