I’ve read some online comments about David Cook’s performance of Billie Jean on the March 25 American Idol, blasting him for ripping off Chris Cornell’s version. Yes, there was mention that he was singing Chris Cornell’s version, but folks thought David Cook should have given more credit to Cornell when the judges were praising him.

On tonight’s March 26 American Idol results show, Ryan Seacrest mentioned that David Cook had sung Chris Cornell’s version of Billie Jean — and commented that he spoke with Cornell and he loved it!

If nothing else, it got Chris Cornell loads of attention for his arrangement of the Michael Jackson classic and David Cook did Billie Jean justice by singing it well.
