Wow. David Letterman was able to reach an agreement with the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and return in January with a full writing staff.
Both “Late Show with David Letterman” and “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” which are owned by David Letterman’s Worldwide Pants production company, will return on Wednesday. Under the agreement between Letterman’s production company and WGA, the full writing staffs for both shows will return. Read the rest of this entry »
Fans of the Discovery Channel series will be pleased to hear that the sixth season of “Mythbusters” will premiere on January 16 at 9 PM (ET).
If you’ve never caught the series, it’s certainly worth a look now that new programming is becoming a thing of the past with the writers’ strike. On “Mythbusters,” Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage (two special effects guys) and their scientific helpers, known as the “Build Team,” look to debunk urban legends through experimentation.
Together, the Mythbusters recreate urban legends and other myths to either prove or disprove them. There is definitely science and technology involved and the myths are fairly well-tested.
You can’t say he didn’t try. David Letterman met with writers to try and strike a deal — but no agreement was met. If both sides could have agreed, David Letterman would have returned in January with writers.
Few details about the meeting between David Letterman’s reps and the writers were revealed, with the Writers Guild of America commenting that “a lively exchange of information took place” and there was “a frank exchange of views.”Read the rest of this entry »
“Desperate Housewives” fans have had a long wait since the tornado cliffhanger episode aired — and we can’t wait to find out what happened in the aftermath.
Fortunately, we don’t have that much more of a wait — a new post-tornado episode of “Desperate Housewives” airs January 6. Unfortunately, this may be the last new “Desperate Housewives” episode for awhile due to the writers’ strike. We’ll take what we can get, I suppose.
This is a video that former “That 70s Show” star Ashton Kutcher and wife Demi Moore created — a bit of a twist on the writers’ strike (the elves are striking and Santa, played by Ashton Kutcher, is a little grumpy). It seems to run a little long, even at five minutes, and I’m certain the highlight for most will be seeing Santa’s (Ashton Kutcher) office affair with Rudolph (Demi Moore). Overall, the Christmas video is a little underwhelming, but it’s an attempt at being funny, I guess.
The Writers Guild of America (WGA) granted a waiver prior to the writers’ strike to allow Film Independent, the Spirit Awards organizer, to hire writers.
This morning, it was reported that “The Office” star Rainn Wilson will not only host the Spirit Awards, but will also be a co-writer for the event. Read the rest of this entry »
I think I’ve been missing the Comedy Central news boys – Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert – most of all during the writers’ strike. Now I’m forced to watch the real news again.
The good news? Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert will return on January 7!
The bad news? “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “The Colbert Report” will return without writers. Read the rest of this entry »
First came the announcement that the People’s Choice Awards would not include a red carpet due to the striking writers — fewer celebrities attending the event could mean a pretty lame red carpet. Now even more People’s Choice Awards changes are in store.
The People’s Choice Award is scheduled to air January 8 on CBS — and while Queen Latifah is still on board as host, the format of the People’s Choice Awards will be drastically different.
Rather than the typical awards show format, the People’s Choice Awards will include fan submitted questions and pre-recorded acceptance speeches. The People’s Choice Awards president said, the “new approach will give fans a more personal glimpse into the lives of their favorite actors and musicians.”
