Naima – 1984, her mom was a jazz vocalist and she would be on her back when her mom was on stage as a baby. Sings “What’s Love Got to Do With It” by Tina Turner. Steven said he loved it and it was beautiful; Jennifer said she’s consistently pitchy and she’s worried how her performances will hold up against others; Randy said she’s always under the pitch and vocals were all over the place.

Paul – 1984, we get to see him in a cowboy outfit and his dad likes to rock out in the shower. Sings “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues” by Elton John. Jennifer said it sounded good, he has soul and star quality; Randy said he was pitchy but says he likes that Paul compares him to Ray LaMontagne; Steven says he’s a “cool dude in a loose mood.”

Thia – 1995, she wrote her first song at 6 years old. Sings “Colors of the Wind” by Vanessa Williams. Randy said the vocals were okay, but the problem he’s having is that it felt like a pageant and there was nothing special or unique about it; Steven said she sang it beautifully but asks if that’s who she is; Jennifer wants her to break out of being safe and talks about her vibrato needing work.

James – 1989, cute home videos, he says he was a “cheeseball’ and a ham. Sings “I’ll Be There For You” by Bon Jovi. Steven asks about his childhood dolls, said it was good – James says he wants to save the Aerosmith for the finale and Steven says he’ll join him on stage. Jennifer said he was amazing and brings her so much joy. Randy said there are a couple of pitch spots, but he figures out how to make it his own.

Haley – 1990, her parents are in a band and Haley calls them amazing musicians. Sings “I’m Your Baby Tonight” by Whitney Houston. Jennifer said she looks great (kiss of death) and says she has an amazing voice, but says she’s tense in her body and tells her to do what she feels naturally… Ryan comes by to fix her makeup. Randy said he’s a little confused and said it’s not a great performance; Steven said it was sweet and tough and wants to hear more blues.

Stefano – 1989, his parents said he loved music as a kid; he talks about his grandfather having a music store. Sings “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” by Simply Red. Randy said it was the best performance of the night. Steven said he had beautiful phrasing and it was over the top. Jennifer said it was a perfect song for him and he could take this thing.

Pia – 1988, her family talks about her singing on video camera, her supportive grandfather that she wishes could see her sing now. Sings “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” by Whitney Houston. Steven said she took the song over the top and nailed it; Jennifer was glad she did something up tempo and said it was perfect; Randy said every week she produces great vocals.

Scotty – 1993, had a thing about Elvis when he was a kid, even dressed up as Elvis for Halloween. Sings “Can I Trust You With My Heart” by Travis Tritt. Jennifer said she wants to see him keep going in this direction; Randy said he’s so happy and did Travis proud (name dropped that he’s a friend); Steven said it was really good and he’s going places.

Karen – 1989, her mom put a radio next to her belly when she was pregnant with Karen. Sings “Love Will Lead You Back” by Taylor Dane. Randy said it was better than last week, but he’s not jumping up and down; Steven said he loves when she sings Spanish; Jennifer tells her to play to her strengths.

Casey Abrams – his parents were older but he said they’re much wiser! Sings “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana. Steven says he’s so good, crazy and talented; Jennifer said those are big shoes to fill and said parts werre “screamy-screetchy,” but said she loves him so much; Randy said it wasn’t his best performance but likes that he’s fearless.

Lauren – she has the flu! – 1994, her mom said she was a peaceful baby and then the real Lauren came out. Sings “I’m the Only One” by Melissa Etheridge. Jennifer called it very nice and said she gave it her country flavor and made it her own; Randy said it was very nice and he liked it; Steven said she’s a shining star.

Jacob – 1987. Sings “Alone” by Heart. Randy said it was a nice performance and he lost himself, but he found his way back, says he loved at the end when it was tender; Steven says some nonsense about gospel having a baby; Jennifer said he gives himself to every performance and everyone feels that.

Oscar-winner, Nicole Kidman, surprised fans when she and husband, Keith Urban, announced the birth of their second child a few weeks ago. The celebrity couple had managed to hire a surrogate and keep their pregnancy a secret from the public. Now, during an interview with Australia’s 60 Minutes, Kidman gives us the first glance at her new daughter, Faith.

As a special treat for RiRi’s birthday, Katy Perry, covered one of her gal pals biggest hits as well as Willow Smith’s Whip my Hair. I’m a little impressed Katy live…very different from her award show performances.

Tonight ESPN aired the next installment of their series, The Year of the Quarterback. A film produced by County Music Superstar and life-long University of Tennessee football fan, Kenny Chesney, showed an intimate look at the life of Condrdge Holloway, the first Black Quarterback to start in the South Eastern Conference (SEC).

Taking the stage at the Staples Center tonight, Rihanna was joined by Drake and Kanye West for a half-time performance of Kanye’s latest single, All of the Lights. RiRi and Drake also performed their hit single, What’s my Name. You can watch the performance here.

A Murray State professor resigned this week after making a racial slur towards a black, female student. Mark Wattier, a political science professor, told freshman Arlene Johnson last August that he wasn’t surprised that she didn’t show up on time to a film he started 15 minutes before class began. “We said, ‘Well, we didn’t know that. It wasn’t on the syllabus, so we were unaware,’” Johnson said. “And then he said, ‘Well, it’s OK, I expect it of you guys anyway.’ We asked him, ‘What did that mean?’ And he said the slaves never showed up on time, so their owners often lashed them for it. He just didn’t have the right.”
