Jonathan Rhys Meyers was hospitalized Tuesday after an apparent suicide attempt.

Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers, star of The Tudors, was taken to the hospital after refusing treatment from paramedics.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers recently finished his fifth stint in rehab for alcohol addiction.

Rhys Meyers is believed to have overdosed on pills, though no details have yet been made available.

He was released from the hospital yesterday and gave the standard “no comment” when asked about the suicide rumors.

Showtime has renewed The Tudors for a fourth season – also the series final season, ending in 2010.

The fourth season of The Tudors will include 10 one-hour episodes and production will begin in June in Dublin.

The Tudors season three debuted to 726,000 total viewers, with a total audience of 1.3 million once encores and on-demand viewing were included.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers, star of The Tudors, is reportedly back in rehab in England for alcoholism. Jonathan Rhys Meyers previously did a rehab stint at Promises in California in 2005.

The new season of the Tudors begins April 5 on Showtime; the next season begins filming in June.

Not surprisingly, Showtime has renewed “The Tudors” for a third season.

Showtime made the renewal announcement yesterday, with production expected to begin in June for a 2009 premiere.

Robert Greenblatt, head of Showtime Entertainment said, “‘The Tudors’ is now a fixture for us at Showtime, and we’re on our way to completing the entire saga of all six wives of Henry VIII. We are enormously proud of this show, the extraordinary cast, and the production team that recreates the grandeur of the Renaissance year in and year out.”

In the current season of “The Tudors,” Henry VIII (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is only on his second wife, Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer) — there are still four more wives, so I’d expect the series to carry on for additional seasons.
