The good news? Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert will return on January 7!

Following David Letterman’s and Conan O’Brien’s announcements that they would be paying their non-writing staffers, Jay Leno has also announced that he’ll pay salaries during the writers’ strike. Jay Leno will pay about 80 of his “Tonight Show” workers who were laid off on Friday.
Prior to the announcement that the “Tonight Show” staff were laid off (and apparently not guaranteed to be rehired at a future point), Jay Leno had told staff “not to panic.” One staff member said that at the time, Leno had commented, “I can’t get into details, but nobody will miss a car payment or lose their house. We’re family. Trust me. I’m going to take care of this.”
