On the April 10 American Idol results show, Michael Johns, Carly Smithson and Syesha Mercado were in the bottom three. In the end, however, it was Michael Johns who was eliminated.

Randy said it was ok, but he didn’t feel a connection; Paula said it was one of Syesha Mercado’s most shining nights; Simon thought she sang it very well, but it lacked a big wave of emotion.
So here we are – the top 8 American Idol finalists left standing. But who will win it all? Syesha Mercado sings “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton in this April 1 American Idol video clip. Yeah, she’s no Whitney, but I think Randy and Simon were a little hard on her.
Randy said she did pretty good; Paula said she’s connecting with the audience more and loves it; Simon said it was a good, but not fantastic version of the song.
