Showtime is wrapping up “The L Word” early next year, airing the sixth and final season – but an “L Word” spin-off is already planned for the network.

The failure of “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” can’t keep former “Friends” star Matthew Perry away from TV. Matthew Perry is set to join Showtime’s “The End of Steve,” a dark comedy where he plays a talk show host.

Jimmy Smits will be joining the cast of Showtime’s Dexter, appearing in 10 of Season 3’s episodes. Jimmy Smits is an Emmy and Golden Globe winner, so his addition to the Dexter cast is not too shabby.
Jimmy Smits will play Miguel Prado, an “ambitious and charismatic assistant district attorney.” Jimmy Smits’ character and Dexter will team up with Prado to “track a murderer who affects both of their lives directly.”

Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody no doubt has offers pouring in, given her Oscar win this year. Cast in point – Showtime has greenlit a new series written by Diablo Cody called “The United States of Tara.”
12 Episodes of “The United States of Tara” have been ordered; the series will star Toni Collette as a wife and mother suffering from disassociative identity (formerly multiple personality) disorder. John Corbett will play her husband.

Not surprisingly, Showtime has renewed “The Tudors” for a third season.
