The current season finale of Rescue Me airs Tuesday, September 1.

Details about how FX will wrap up Rescue Me is not quite firmed up, with the network determining if they will air the last episodes in two different seasons of 10 and nine episodes (or nine one season and 10 the final season).

Cast and crew will begin production on the final episodes of Rescue Me in September.

Michael J. Fox told Entertainment Tonight, “The funny part is me playing a paralyzed guy because I am the opposite of paralyzed. It’s tricky just to even just to be still.”

In an interview for Access Hollywood, Jenny McCarthy said, “Whoo! First of all, let me tell you, the autism community has received probably 10,000 emails [saying] ‘Go kill him!’ ‘Go yell at him.’ [But] it’s so hard to even get up enough juice in me or energy in me to even try to fight someone that is obviously stupid.”

In Deni Leary’s book, “Why We Suck: A Feel-Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid,” he says that those diagnosed with autism are, “… stupid. Or lazy. Or both.”

Leary, naturally, issued a statement that the negative autism comments were taken out of context:

“I thought I made my feelings about autism very clear: that I not only support the current rational approaches to the diagnoses and treatment of real autism but have witnessed it firsthand while watching very dear old friends raise a functioning autistic child.

The bulk of the chapter deals with grown men who are either self-diagnosing themselves with low-level offshoots of the disease or wishing they could as a way to explain their failed careers and troublesome progeny.”

Jenny McCarthy hasn’t read Leary’s book, but commented:

“These poor moms are just going through so much hell and I don’t think Denis is quite educated in the area just like that other DJ,” she said. “I wish these people would come sit down and talk to some families before they make comments because we are already suffering so badly… We don’t need anymore [comments like that]. We’re already in so much pain.”

Likely, Denis Leary won’t be making too many friends with his take on autism. But he’s defnitely getting plenty of attention for his book.

Denis Leary, who stars on “Rescue Me” says in his book:

“There is a huge boom in autism right now because inattentive mothers and competitive dads want an explanation for why their dumb-ass kids can’t compete academically, so they throw money into the happy laps of shrinks . . . to get back diagnoses that help explain away the deficiencies of their junior morons. I don’t give a [bleep] what these crackerjack whack jobs tell you – yer kid is NOT autistic. He’s just stupid. Or lazy. Or both.”

Naturally, the Autism Society of America released a statement to set Denis Leary straight, saying:

“For Mr. Leary to suggest that families or doctors conspire to falsely diagnose autism is ridiculous . . . [His] remarks reflect the same misconceptions of autism being caused by bad or unemotional parenting that were held over 50 years ago.”

While no deal has yet been reached for Michael J. Fox’s appearance on Rescue Me, sources say that he would join the series as a love interest for Tommy’s (Denis Leary) ex, Janet (Andrea Roth).

As for Scrubs, Michael J. Fox will reprise his role as Dr. Kevin Casey (he appeared on two episodes of Scrubs in 2004).

New full-length episodes of Rescue Me, starring Denis Leary, will begin in April 2009 – the last one aired in September 2007!

According to writer/producer Peter Tolan, “You’re looking at 19 months off the air, which is technically cancellation, I believe. We felt there was some risk there, and the best way to hedge our bets is to give us some face time with our audience so they don’t drift away.”

So, what will the Rescue Me minisodes be about? They don’t tie in with the new season, but offer up some funny moments.

Denis Leary hinted at one: “One involves a flashback that explains something that goes all the way back to the beginning of the series, and another is a dream sequence tied into Tommy’s psyche. It starts out as a really sexy dream and ends up as a nightmare.”

The Rescue Me minisodes will also be available at YouTube, Hulu and Crackle.

Denis Leary and “The View” ladies got into a political discussion, where Leary commented:

“White men have screwed this country up!,I would like a black, female…. everything all rolled into one.

I want something different. I want a real change. … People, I want a president who speaks well, who has a sense of humor. This guy is such a moron! It’s beyond the point where it’s a joke. He’s an idiot.”

Denis Leary has one fan on the show: Whoopi Goldberg gave the “Rescue Me” actor a standing ovation.

“When I see people they go, ‘What’s going on with your hair?’” Leary told People magazine at the Leary Firefighter’s Foundation Bash for New York’s Bravest. “And I’m going, ‘What?’ I think they mean my hair’s messed up.”
