Archuleta made the tearful announcement during his Christmas concert in Utah on Monday night, telling the audience, “It’s not because somebody told me that I was supposed to do it, not because that I no longer want to do music anymore, but it’s because it’s the feeling that I felt that I need to do next in my life.”

You can’t fault Archuleta for doing something other than music, especially considering that he was dropped by Jive Records after his “The Other Side of Down” album bombed.

After an eventful season in Italy, the Jersey Shore returns to its roots in Seaside Heights – Vinny is seen leaving the house and The Situation and Snooki face off with Sitch noting, “This is Hurricane Situation and it’s headed straight for Snooki Island.”

Other gems include Snooki’s declaration: “I look like a Jersey skank… and I love it!”

Season 5 of the Jersey Shore premieres on January 5.

Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kris Humprhies just 72 days after their ridiculously over-the-top wedding that had its own two part special.

I don’t think anyone was expecting the Kim Kardashian / Kris Humphries marriage to go the distance, but they could have given it a little more of a try than 72 days.

Ryan Seacrest talks about Kim’s divorce on his KIIS-FM radio show today: “I’ve spoken to her briefly and she says she’s sad and got caught up in all that was going on.”

Lame.

And Maks wasn’t having any of it.

Len defended his judging decision saying, “I’ve been in this business for nearly 50 years.”

Maks’ response? “Maybe it’s time to go.”

Ouch.

Then Carrie Ann called Maks on being disrespectful and Maks responded, “Everybody on that balcony has been dying and killing themselves only to hear your guy’s a little judgmental comments [sic]. … I am not being disrespectful, I’m protecting my partner.”

Maks then carried his cockiness backstage, touting, “With all due respect, this is my show. I helped make it what it is. I love every aspect of it. I love every professional that has ever been here, and I love every celebrity that puts effort into it every week. Having said that, I’m a little tired that we are being judged, some on effort and some, being picked on (for) our heel leads.”

What passes for a “celebrity” on reality TV is pretty nuts.
