NBC Cancels Quarterlife; Moves to Bravo

Well, that was fast. But not surprising. After just one episode of “Quarterlife,” NBC canceled the series.

“Quarterlife,” which once found its groove online, made the move to network television on Tuesday. The move didn’t prove successful, however, with abysmal ratings that haven’t hit such a low for a 10 PM show in 17 years.

Naturally, NBC wasted no time in their decision to cancel “Quarterlife.”

If you enjoyed the series (which I did, actually), you can still catch “Quarterlife” on Bravo. Five one-hour episodes will run on Bravo, although it’s unclear what day/time the remaining episodes will air.

“Quarterlife” co-creator Marshall Herskovitz issued this statement:
“We’re deeply grateful for NBC’s efforts to make ‘quarterlife’ a success on network television. However, I’ve always had concerns about whether ‘quarterlife’ was the kind of show that could pull in the big numbers necessary to succeed on a major broadcast network. … We live in a media world today where many shows are considered successful on cable networks with audiences that are a fraction of those on the Big Four. I’m confident that ‘quarterlife’ will find the right home on television as well.”

Quarterlife Suffers Low Ratings, Network Move a Mistake?

I checked out “Quarterlife” the other night — and I thought it was pretty good. Others, however didn’t agree — “Quarterlife” ratings were low, turning in the worst NBC 10 PM performance in 17 years.

Yeah, that’s bad.

“Quarterlife” co-creator Marshall Herskovitz said at the Harvard Business School’s Entertainment & Media conference that the show “never should have been a network show. It’s too specific.”

Overall, “Quarterlife” only grabbed 3.1 million viewers. Does the show stand a chance or is cancellation a no-brainer?

I’m really excited about the premiere of “Quarterlife” tonight on NBC at 10 PM ET/PT. Will you be watching?

Or have you already been watching online?

I’m interested in seeing how “Quarterlife” makes the leap from Internet to TV… and equally as interested in seeing how the brains behind “My So-Called Life” do with this new series.

For any “My So-Called Life” fans who were miffed about its cancellation oh-so-many years ago… “Quarterlife” could be our redemption. OK, so no Angela Martin or Jordan Catalano, but it could still be good. Right?

If you can’t wait for the show to air tonight on NBC, MTV is airing “Quarterlife” at 4:30 PM ET/PT.

Quarterlife, Psych and Monk Get Later Starts on NBC

NBC is doing a little schedule shuffling — bumping the much anticipated television premiere of “Quarterlife” an extra week.

“Quarterlife” is the Internet series that was scheduled to begin Monday, February 18th — now NBC has announced that “Quarterlife” will premiere Tuesday, February 26 at 10 PM, then move to its Sunday night timeslot (9 PM) beginning on March 2.

“Quarterlife” isn’t the only show to get bumped either — USA Network’s “Monk” and “Psych,” were set to premiere on March 2, but will now begin on April 6 at 8 PM.

“Quarterlife,” the Internet success story that got its start on MySpace, then quarterlife.com, will find new life on NBC when it debuts on February 18.

The creators of “My So Called Life,” “thirtysomething” and “Once & Again” (Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick) take on 20-somethings in “Quarterlife,” a drama originally intended for the Internet.

“Quarterlife” comes to NBC beginning on February 18 and will air as six one-hour episodes (online, 36 weekly episodes of “Quarterlife” were shown).

“Quarterlife,” an Internet show, could make the leap to television on NBC. The network is looking for new programming due to the writers’ strike, and looks like “Quarterlife” may offer some promise. The show started on MySpace over the weekend and can be seen on its own site, Quarterlife.com.

If you’ve never heard of it, it’s got a pretty good pedigree behind it, from “My So-Called Life” and “thirtysomething” creators Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick. The twentysomethings in “Quarterlife” include Dylan (Bitsie Tulloch, of “lonelygirl15″ fame), Scott Michael Foster (“Greek”), David Walton (“Heist”), Michelle Lombardo (“Click”), Maite Schwartz, Kevin Christy (“Seven Days,” “For Your Consideration”) and Barret Swatek (“7th Heaven”). It will air online in 38 eight-minute episodes, but if it comes to TV, it would equate to 13 half-hour episodes.
