Katie Stam is a 22-year-old University of Indianapolis student – the first Miss America to win from the state of Indiana.
The Miss America 2008 pageant aired on TLC tonight — and Miss Michigan Kirsten Haglund, the 19-year-old aspiring Broadway star, took home the crown. Miss Indiana Nicole Elizabeth Rash was the Miss America 2008 pageant’s first runner up, while Miss Washington Elyse Umemoto was the pageant’s second runner up. Hosted by Michael Urie (who plays snarky Marc St. James on “Ugly Betty), “Miss America: Reality Check” takes a behind-the-scenes look at the 52 Miss America contestants as they live together in an L.A. Mansion and (according to the TLC press release) “participate in an intense set of events and challenges designed to prepare them for the final event.”
