Amy Locane played Sandy in the original Melrose Place cast. The drunk driving accident happened last night in Montgomery, N.J. after Amy got behind the wheel following drinking several glasses of wine.

Locane was reportedly driving a Chevy Tahoe when she struck the passenger side of another car that was turning into a driveway.

The passenger, Helen Seeman, was pronounced dead at the scene; The driver, Fred Seeman, is in critical condition.

Amy Locane’s bail has been set at $50,000… she reportedly also rear-ended a car in a hit-and-run before this accident left one dead.

If convicted, Locane could face five to 10 years in prison.

Can’t say the Melrose Place cancellation is surprising and likely there are only a handful of people that even cared about the series.

At this point, it’s all rumor… while Ashlee Simpson’s castmates may not have enjoyed working with her, there’s little argument that Simpson is lacking in the acting talent department.

News that Ashlee Simpson was fired from Melrose Place broke last week – Simpson played Violet Foster on the re-do of the popular 1990s series.

An insider has reported that “Ashlee was kicked off Melrose Place because she was a total diva on set, late all the time, and deeply disliked by fellow cast members. It created a lot of discord among the cast.”

Of course, executive producer Todd Slavkin had a more professional take on giving Simpson the boot: “We felt that once the murder mystery (involving their characters) was resolved, the tone of the show was going to shift … and (Simpson-Wentz’s) character would move on.”

Then there are rumors that Ashlee was booted to make more room in the budget for Heather Locklear’s character to return.

I guess the biggest question here is… “Is anyone even watching Melrose?”

A source told Us Weekly that Ashlee Simpson was hired “because they needed a good name to help create buzz”… “But she was embarrassingly bad,” and “She’s the worst actress, but nobody will tell her.”

Ashlee Simpson and Colin Egglesfield were both fired from the series, with Melrose Place producer Todd Slavkin saying:

“Well, we always knew that this murder mystery would end in episode 12. And we always knew that [Ashlee's] character of Violet would be instrumental in that as a suspect, and [Colin's character of] Augie as well. And once that murder mystery was solved, she would go on her way. That was the original plan going into the development of the show.”

Do we have any Melrose fans out there? Any sadness to see Ashlee go?

The plan for Melrose, post-Ashlee is a “shift into a much more fun, romantic, sexy upbeat kind of show,” according to Slavkin.

The show insider squeals: “There are definitely talks going on. It’s better-than-even money that she’ll do it. Everyone’s optimistic, absolutely.”

Additionally, the source says that Heather Locklear “saw the pilot and loved it. Hopefully [producers will] figure out something great for her creatively.”

Though Sydney was run over by a car and died on the original Melrose, she will return to the remake as the landlord of the apartment complex.
