It’s just 23 seconds long, but the audio clip of Kris Allen’s first single, “Live Like We’re Dying,” should give his American Idol fans something to work with.

Listen to Kris Allen’s “Live Like We’re Dying” in the audio/video clip above – according to EW.com, “A 19 rep confirms that “Live Like We’re Dying” is indeed Kris’ lead single, and adds that it will officially debut Monday, Sept. 21, at 7:40 a.m. EDT on New York’s Z100.”

This clip was played today on an Arkansas radio station – it’s a cover of The Script’s “Live Like We’re Dying.”

Kris Allen Grandmother Dies, Cancels Tonight Show; Allison Iraheta Fills In

Sadly, Kris Allen posted on Twitter that he was cancelling his Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien appearance on Wednesday due to a death in his family (Allen’s grandmother passed away). American Idol finalist Allison Iraheta will be filling in on Conan.

Kris Allen tweeted: “I know I was supposed to do conan on wed, but there was a death in my family. But everyone watch @Allison4Realzzz on Wed. She is filling in.” He followed it up with “by filling in I mean @Allison4Realzzz is gonna rock Conan’s face off on Wednesday.”

Kris Allen Signs Deal With Jive Records

American Idol winner Kris Allen has officially signed a deal with Jive Records – and he’s eager to get started.

According to a press release today,, “It was announced today that 19 Recordings has signed Kris Allen, and his recordings have been licensed to Jive Records.”

Kris Allen commented, “As exciting as the last few months have been, I’m really looking forward to what is next. I’m very grateful to be working with Simon Fuller and his team at 19 Entertainment, along with Barry Weiss and Jive Records on my debut album. Everyone’s been asking me what it’s going to sound like. It will be very similar to what you heard from me on the show — definitely in the pop/rock genre. I can’t wait to get started!”
