Knight Rider Gets Full Season Pickup on NBC

Yawn.. it’s a slow morning for news. Case in point – the news that NBC has given Knight Rider a full season pickup. Whaa???

Despite Knight Rider receiving craptacular reviews, NBC has decided to take a chance on the remake by giving it a full order.

Knight Rider has done fairly well in the ratings, grabbing a fair share of young male viewers.

NBC Announces 2008/2009 Lineup Schedule

NBC has officially announced their 2008/2009 schedule. New shows include My Own Worst Enemy, Kath & Kim, starring Molly Shannon and Selma Blair, Knight Rider (for real – they picked up the series following the success of the February movie!), Crusoe, The Philanthropist, Merlin and Kings.

Perhaps one of the more interesting new NBC series is a spin-off of The Office. But why?

Knight Rider Movie: Will Arnett Out, Val Kilmer In as Voice of KITT

Sadly, hearing “Arrested Development” star Will Arnett’s voice as KITT on the upcoming NBC revamp movie was the only reason I planned to tune in to watch “Knight Rider.” Now, that’s not happening.

Instead, Val Kilmer will provide the voice of KITT. What happened?

Will Arnett has already completed his voice over work, but a contractual conflict of interest was discovered that had the “Knight Rider” team switching gears (hey, that’s my best attempt at car humor).

Whether you realize it or not, Will Arnett has lent his voice to General Motors commericals for quite some time — voicing ads for GMC Trucks.

The conflict here? KITT is as Ford Mustang! Since Ford plans a marketing blitz with the new “Knight Rider,” General Motors didn’t take too kindly to that.

So, Will Arnett is out — Val Kilmer is in as the voice of KITT.

The “Knight Rider” movie airs on NBC on February 17.

Will Arnett said of the switcheroo:

“I was very excited at the prospect of playing the part of KITT in the new ‘Knight Rider’ movie. However, because of a long relationship with General Motors as the voice of GMC Trucks, I had to respectfully withdraw from the project.”

Wow, how fun is this news? “Arrested Development” star (and “30 Rock” guest star) Will Arnett will be the voice of KITT, the macked out Ford Mustang in the sequel to the popular 1980s series “Knight Rider.” If you’re not familiar with Arnett’s voice, you’ve probably heard it on many a television commercial – he’s got the perfect pipes to take on this role.

The “Knight Rider” sequel will begin as a two-hour movie on February 17 at 9 PM. Old “Knight Rider” star David Hasselhoff will be on hand as Michael Knight, but some new blood will be carrying the series: Justin Bruening (“Cold Case,” “All My Children”), Deanna Russo (“NCIS,” “The Young and the Restless”), Sydney Tamiia Poitier (“Veronica Mars”) and Bruce Davison (“Breach,” “Close to Home”).

David Hasselhoff to Appear in New “Knight Rider”

Have you heard about the return of the 80s classic, “Knight Rider”? I don’t know, it may just be crazy enough to work. And now David Hasselhoff is in talks to appear in the upcoming revamp – kind of interesting, since “Knight Rider” was the show that made him a household name. Maybe joining “Knight Rider” can erase that drunken video of The Hoff sloppily eating a hamburger? One can only hope.

Hasselhoff will reprise his role as Michael Knight in this sequel that follows Michael Knight’s son, Mike Tracer (played by Justin Bruening). Mike Tracer’s girlfriend will be the estranged daughter of KITT’s inventor. Oh, let the fun begin.
