Heroes star Hayden Panettiere took to the open water in Japan on Tuesday. She joined five other animal rights activists in paddling out on surfboards to a cove in Taiji in an attempt to stop the annual dolphin hunt. The interference drew angry yelling from fishermen.

NBC was supposed to run a Heroes spin-off series called Heroes: Origins starting in April, but it has pulled the plug for now. They haven’t officially said why but sources are saying the potential Writers Guild of America strike may be part of the reason since the scripts for the new show hadn’t even been started yet.
